Job Summary:

    Develops and executes merchandise strategies to achieve category sales and profit plans. Directly oversees Book Buyer, Marketing Manager and Administrative Assistants for books. Responsible for overall title assortment and sell-through for books.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop supplier relationships.
  • Manage and develop book event program.
  • Develop and execute overall assortment strategies and reviews.
  • Manage on-going product/ assortment reviews
  • Source and develop new product
  • Manage staff development & workload
  • Develop promotional opportunities.
  • Develop effective and efficient communication strategies; communicate merchandise strategies and results effectively within the book department and the overall company.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • 3+ years multi-store buying experience
  • Computer proficiency, especially Excel and Word
  • Excellent analytical and planning skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of reading material industry and distribution network.
  • Knowledge of top selling books
  • Strong retail financial background
  • History of creative contribution in the workplace.
  • Effective people management skills.

Education and Experience:

  • College degree
  • Background in bookselling
